Leading by four, CATS GIVe up next 13 runs
• Highlights: Kent Matthes’ bases-loaded double gave the River Cats a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but they allowed host Salt Lake to score the last 13 runs in a 13-4 loss Friday night at Smith’s Ballpark. Jose Martinez, Nate Freiman and Michael Taylor drew walks in the first to set up Matthes’ double to right field. Shane Peterson’s solo home run gave Sacramento a 4-0 lead in the second.
• Pitching report: River Cats pitching was pounded by the Bees, who had 13 hits, and Sacramento was generous, too, issuing nine walks. Starter Sean Murphy was charged with five runs and six hits in 41/3 innings, and Jeremy McBryde allowed five runs and four hits in 11/3 innings. Philip Humber entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth and allowed a three-run double before getting out of the inning.
