Re "Major problems await if Valley won't stop overpumping its groundwater" (Viewpoints, April 5): Jerry Meral's plan to control and manage groundwater use in the Central Valley is fair, well-thought-out and necessary. I'm a small farmer who uses only surface water provided by the district, and overuse of groundwater is tantamount to slow suicide for all future farming in the areas involved.
California needs agriculture now and for future generations. Support of Jerry's proposals is a wise investment in al of our futures
