Quiet Zone not responsible for death

Re "Quiet Zone claims another life" (Letters, March 28): The Elk Grove Quiet Zone had nothing to do with the death of the 40-year-old on Calvine Road. The Federal Railroad Administration Quiet Zone rules require the crossings to be safer with a QZ or else they are not allowed.

Additionally, the engineer of the train has a responsibility to blow the horn any time they see a potential danger on the tracks. I am sure if you review the records you will find the horn was blown, but the individual either did not hear it or ignored it.
