Teacher should have been more assertive

Re "Teacher faces possible deportation (Our Region, April 5): It's sad that Lilian Velazquez Acosta, an effective and hard-working teacher, might be deported because the Twin Rivers School District dropped the ball and didn't send the required paperwork. But if I were here on a valuable H-1B visa, to which I owed my job and a possible chance at citizenship, I would have moved heaven and earth to make sure it didn't lapse. Acosta should have known everything that had to be accomplished to keep her visa down to the minute detail. Did the district drop the ball? Sure. But Acosta sadly let it happen. You have to look out for No. 1 if nobody else will.
