A 40-year-old Livingston man remained behind bars Monday, accused of fathering two children with a teenage relative.

Arturo Morales, also known as Rolando Sanchez, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 1500 block of Mulberry Court in Livingston on suspicion of incest, child molestation and unlawful sexual intercourse. He was still in custody Monday in lieu of $110,000 bail, according to Merced County Jail records.

Livingston police Detective Patrick Radke, the lead investigator in the case, said police became aware of possible sexual misconduct involving Morales and a 16-year-old relative in 2012, but that lack of physical evidence and an uncooperative victim stalled the investigation.

“We then obtained updated information in March and immediately followed up,” Radke said in a telephone interview Monday.

Investigators also obtained physical evidence linking Morales to the crimes, including evidence that confirms he is the father of at least one of the children, Chief Ruben Chavez said in a news release.

The alleged victim in the case has since turned 18 and told detectives Morales is the father of both her children, police said.

Radke declined to discuss specifics, saying that could jeopardize the investigation.

Police also declined to release the ages or genders of the children.

Chavez said Morales and the girl first had intercourse when she was 15.

Radke said the girl has been told how to obtain various health care services.

Morales has at least one and possibly more aliases with differing dates of birth on file with the Merced County Sheriff’s Department and Merced Superior Court, according to records. Information regarding possible prior arrests or criminal cases involving Morales could not be confirmed Monday.

The Merced County District Attorney’s Office late Monday was still waiting for police reports to be filed and no formal charges had been filed.

Livingston police said they do not believe there are additional victims in the case, but investigators had not ruled out the possibility on Monday.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding either Morales or the case to contact the Livingston Police Department at (209) 394-7916.
