Re "McKinley Village proposal creates traffic fight with neighbors" (Page A1, April 3): The Sacramento Area Council of Governments has said McKinley Village is consistent with its Sustainable Communities Strategy that will reduce sprawl and fight climate change.
The City of Sacramento staff supports the project, finding it in line with Sacramento's general plan for infill development. The City Planning and Design Commission studied the facts for months and unanimously voted to support the project.
The City's Environmental Impact Report found that, with the conditions imposed on the development, the project has no significant environmental impacts. The City's traffic study forecasts no traffic congestion at the project entrances.
Despite all this, a vocal minority of NIMBYs continue to oppose the project at every turn, now proposing a tunnel which is not needed, may not be buildable and is too expensive to afford.
