Bullying is not the problem

I have a high-functioning child who is clearly special needs. This morning, I dropped her off early at the school gym for a field trip. She would wander around the gym trying to join a group of kids with no luck.

The children do not bully her and they are friendly toward her, but they don't include her when they get together. She would walk around, come back to me and then go out and try again. She finally got herself included in a group picture with one girl kindly putting her arm around my daughter's shoulder, but after the picture was taken the group moved on and she was left behind.

Maybe instead of teaching the negatives of bullying, they should preach the positives of just being kind.
