Voters reject effort to recall Modoc supervisor

Modoc County voters soundly rejected an effort to remove District 4 Supervisor Jim Wills from the office he has held since January 2013.

The election Tuesday to recall Wills resulted in 248 votes in favor of the ouster and 365 votes opposed, said Darcy Locken, who serves the county as registrar of voters as well as its clerk.

Wills said Wednesday he was happy with the results but sorry the process was “such a waste of taxpayers’ time and money.”

The grounds for recalling him included negligence and acting in a “personal capacity” in county business.

Dan Lowry, one of the recall proponents, was the only candidate on the recall ballot to replace Wills.

The special election drew a 60 percent turnout and a total of 621 votes cast, Locken said.
