Re "Ban on orca shows is shelved" (April 9): Orcas are just one highly of many intelligent mammals never intended to be domesticated, nor is nothing beneficial gained to humans keeping them captive to entertain other than to make money for their captors.
Sacramento Zoo director Mary Healy also opposed Assembly Bill 2140, being among those who never consider the opposite arguments to exploiting and enslaving animals better off living in the wild for profit. I've personally mailed Healy to not send me any fundraisers and to instead look at nonprofits like Born Free's points against animal exploitation.
Keeping wild and exotic animals for entertainment reasons should be outmoded like slavery was for people. The 21st century mentality should be looking to rehabilitate and liberate animals once kept for captive entertainment, including orcas, to give them the best quality of life possible.
