Sacramento police plan Friday night DUI checkpoint near CSUS

Published: Thursday, Apr. 10, 2014 - 3:34 pm

The Sacramento Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver license checkpoint Friday night near California State University, Sacramento.

The checkpoint will be located on Folsom Boulevard near Hornet Drive. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. and continuing for five to seven hours, motorists passing through the area will be stopped by officers looking for drivers with signs of alcohol or drug impairment. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, according to a Police Department news release

Officers also will check to make sure drivers have proper licenses.

Officials warn that motorists caught driving impaired can expect a DUI arrest to result in jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
