A 63-year-old Las Vegas man was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Sacramento for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old girl during a trip through five states.

Donald J. Peel is charged with interstate transportation of a minor for prohibited sexual conduct, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

According to court documents, Peel allegedly initiated a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl in Las Vegas in late 2013. In February 2014, he and the girl began a five-state trip through Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and California. He was arrested in the Siskiyou County city of Weed on March 19, with the girl still accompanying him, authorities said.

Peel has been in custody since his arrest and is to be arraigned Wednesday.

The case resulted from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the California Highway Patrol and the Weed Police Department.
