Pregame notes: Kings look to avoid being demoralized by highlight plays

Published: Saturday, Apr. 12, 2014 - 12:54 pm

The Kings are at Staples Center for “Lob City.”

Kings coach Michael Malone said the Kings have to limit their mistakes today to avoid giving up too many of those lobs that the Clippers like to throw for highlight-reel dunks.

Malone was asked in terms of momentum, were those plays worth more than two points.

“I think so because if they get enough of them it can become demoralizing,” Malone said. “The crowd gets into the game and when they’re scoring easy basket after easy basket guys drop their heads. That’s where you have to have mental toughness and a next-play mentality.”

• Reggie Evans will be back in the starting lineup at power forward for the Kings.

Evans did not start at Portland coming off a sore lower back.

Malone said Rudy Gay (lower back strain) will start barring a last-second problem. Gay practiced Friday.

• Isaiah Thomas worked out before the game. He’s been out nearly three weeks with a right quad contusion. Thomas will not play today but Malone said he could play Wednesday in the season finale against Phoenix.

• Prediction time: Look for Chris Paul to annoy DeMarcus Cousins any way he can and the Clippers to turn Kings’ mistakes into points.

Clippers 108, Kings 100

My record: 51-27 (minus the pregame session missed due to travel issues).
