Re “Let's follow a few rules of the road, please” (Editorials, April 11): Perhaps the only benefit of the horrific fiery crash near Orland is that it will perhaps make The Bee editorial writers rethink their editorial Friday, which blamed every motorist, pedestrian and bicyclist for the chaos on the streets.

Instead of looking backward and casting blame, The Bee needs to look forward and discuss preventing deadly crashes. In the case of Orland, why hasn't Caltrans installed a barrier in the center? Is it not needed or not cost effective? Is it fair or ethical to trade the lives of innocent students to widen some freeway somewhere?

We need Caltrans and all the cities in California to embrace preventing deaths on the streets.
