Viewing for a total lunar eclipse should be good as the color of the moon changes in the night sky.

When the Earth’s shadow falls across the moon, its color is expected to change from bright orange to blood red to brown. The color all depends on the local weather conditions.

In Sacramento, the National Weather Service said that the viewing forecast is favorable for moon-gazing with just a few high clouds expected to stream across the sky.

In California, the eclipse starts about 11 p.m. Monday and continues through 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The time frame, according to Sacramento forecasters, includes partial eclipse during the first and last hours.

The total eclipse occurs between midnight and 1:30 a.m. The peak of the eclipse in the Sacramento region is at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday.
