Re "In Iowa, Ryan says budget a step toward GOP unity" (April 11): The Ryan budget, passed by the House of Representatives with not a single democratic vote, is destructive and underhanded.

The voiceless poor would be impacted the most, but this budget would also throw the struggling middle class under the bus by raising costs for higher education, and throwing away the rights to reasonable medical care. This is true even if they have pre-existing conditions, while giving millionaires a tax break of at least $200,000.

Our local Representative, Ami Bera voted against this bill, saying "All the budget options presented this week were one-sided, political exercises that do nothing to move our country forward."

Look beyond Paul Ryan's simplistic slogans and pay attention to what the republicans in power today are trying to gain for themselves and their rich sponsors. If they accomplish the goals represented by this budget, it would mean a dismal future for the rest of us.
