After plentiful rainfall in February and early April, dry conditions have returned to the Central Valley.
Since Jan. 1:
• Redding Airport: 14.03 inches of rain
• Sacramento’s Executive Airport: 7.44 inches of rain
• Stockton Airport: 5.37 inches of rain
The official rain gauge for Sacramento shows that in April the city has received 1.31 inches of rain. That breaks down to 1.30 on April 1 and 0.01 on April 4.
For the past 10 days the Sacramento has not had a drop of rain. Most days have had high temperatures 10 degrees or more above normal for early April.
A couple of changes in the weather are forecast for the Sacramento region by the National Weather Service. In the short term, winds are expected to pick up on Wednesday, blowing steady at 15 mph and possibly gusting to 26 mph.
Looking into next week, the weather service is noting that early computer models seem to indicate that the quiet weather along the west coast may be altered. Extended models show that a deep and cold low pressure system could swing into Northern California early next week.
Weather forecasters in the Sacramento office promise to keep an eye on that potential weather changer.
