Plumas ranger wins accolades from forest homeowners

An association of national forest homeowners has presented its annual recreation advocate award to Mike Donald, a Plumas National Forest district ranger.

Since becoming Mt. Hough District ranger in 2007, Donald has worked with the Bucks Lake Homeowners Association on emergency telephone service to the area 18 miles west of Quincy, where over 60 owners have cabins under permit on U.S. Forest Service land.

After years of contention, Donald provided consistent communication about the issues and alternatives, said Michael Hoover, a Bucks Lake cabin owner who nominated him for the award.

The Bucks Lake telephone project is “a unique example of outstanding cooperation between cabin owners and a Forest Service administrator,” Hoover said.

Donald received the award at the National Forest Homeowners annual conference held recently in Reno.
