The start of fishing season April 26 will coincide with the opening of select Lassen National Forest campgrounds near prime fishing waters.

On the Lake Almanor district, April 23 marks the seasonal opening of Butte Meadows, Cherry Hill, Alder, Elam, and Potato Patch campgrounds, said forest spokeswoman Heidi Perry.

Gurnsey Creek, Almanor and all other Almanor District campgrounds are scheduled to open the weekend of May 16 in time for Memorial Day weekend, she said.

The Old Station Visitor Center is scheduled to open by April 26along with all Hat Creek area campgrounds except Big Pine. Staff will be at the center for weekend visitors until mid-June, when the center will be open five days a week during scheduled hours.

Concessionaire campgrounds on the Eagle Lake District will open May 15, with the marina store set to open May 18, said Perry.

In addition to these designated campgrounds, the Lassen Forest allows dispersed camping in many places, with campfires requiring a permit.
