A 3-mile run in honor of the upcoming first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings drew about 100 participants on Tuesday in downtown Sacramento.

Sally Monical, top, steps it out along 10th Street with other runners as a tuneup for next Monday’s 26.2-mile Boston Marathon. Competing in her third Boston Marathon last year, Monical was just a block away from the second explosion, and didn’t finish the race. “I am going back,” she said, “and I am going to finish!”

Beverley Newman also ran Tuesday. She, too, was in Boston during the bombing attack last year, finishing the race only 30 minutes before the explosions.
