Guava Rose throws a tea party
We recently celebrated Laurel’s birthday with a Girls’ Day Makeover and Tea Party. I was feeling sentimental and teary just thinking about how she would be gone to college in a couple of years. She hasn’t wanted a birthday party since she was 9 years old, and this would probably be my one and last birthday party for her as a teenager. ... Ahead of time, I made these two-tiered serving trays with disposable clear plastic plates, and a disposable clear plastic wine glass. Secured with a little hot glue, and covered with paper doilies, they were perfect.

Crazy For Crust bakes ‘perfect sugar cookies’
I’ve made these sugar cookies a few times now. They’re actually based on a recipe in my cookbook (hopefully out this fall). These are the perfect sugar cookies for several reasons:
1. You don’t have to roll them. That means flour stays in your flour bin and does not get all over you, the floor, the counter, and the dog.
2. I put almond extract in them. It’s optional, but wow does it make them good. (FYI, I could drink almond extract … if it tasted like it smelled, that is.)
