Welfare cowboy vs. gold dredging ban

Re "Welfare queen in a cowboy hat is no revolutionary" (Viewpoints, April 18): I can see the logic and legality in James Greiff's editorial on the standoff situation in Nevada with the Bureau of Land Management.

While he says federal law basically trumps the individual rights enjoyed prior to their enactment, why is there no equal outrage over California usurping the legal federal rights of gold prospectors and their legal right to dredge for gold in the rivers and streams of the state? Do we also need armed militia to get your attention?
