In an effort to help prevent identity theft, consumers are invited to two free shredding events, held on Saturdays in coming weeks. Both offer instant, on-site shredding of financial documents and other paperwork containing Social Security numbers, financial accounts or other sensitive information. The two events are:
April 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by Golden 1 Credit Union. Consumers can bring up to five file-sized boxes of paperwork, as well as CDs and DVDs. It will be held at Golden 1’s headquarters, 8945 Cal Center Drive, Sacramento, near Watt Avenue and Folsom Boulevard.
May 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., sponsored by the Northeast California Better Business Bureau. Consumers can bring up to three file-sixed boxes of papers for free shredding. Additional boxes can be shredded for a suggested donation of $3 per box. It will be held in the parking lot of American Mobile Shredding, 4391 Pell Drive, in Sacramento.
