Sacramento television station Channel 3 (KCRA) has won four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, given by the Radio Television Digital News Association.
KCRA received awards for Overall News Excellence, Best Breaking News Coverage, Best Newscast and Best Continuing Coverage.
The Murrow awards, named for the late broadcast journalist who gained international fame over a period ranging from pre-World War II to the Red Scare era characterized by the tactics of U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy, recognize outstanding achievement in electronic journalism and broadcast news excellence standards demonstrated by Murrow.
KCRA was cited for work that included on-site coverage of the manhunt in the aftermath of last year’s bombings at the Boston Marathon and for stories related to health care and the federal Affordable Care Act.
KCRA, a Hearst Television station, has been on the air since September 3, 1955.
