John Paul II not a saint

Re "Canonization of Pope John Paul II an affront to victims of sexual abuse" (Viewpoints, April 24): I agree with Maureen Dowd. Pope John Paul II presided over the molestation of thousands of innocent children by Catholic priests for 26 years and did nothing about it. In addition, he put the final nail in the coffin of the opportunity for Catholic women to serve as priests.

I believe God forgives our sins but holds us accountable. That seems to have escaped the Catholic Church in this case. The standard for Catholic saints seems to have plummeted to an all time low.
