A proposal to consider allowing medical marijuana dispensaries in Colfax failed in the City Council Wednesday night.
Two council members voted in favor, and two voted against the motion, which would have instructed city staff to look into revising the 2009 ordinance prohibiting dispensaries in Colfax. The fifth council member abstained.
“It failed for a lack of a majority,” said City Manager Mark Miller, adding that about 50 people showed up for the meeting. “The issue of changing the ordinance has been decided.”
Medical marijuana proponents recently rekindled the idea of setting up shop in town. The city has been without a dispensary for several years, after the last one shut down under pressure from the federal government, Miller said.
