The Saturday morning shooting deaths of two adults inside a Sacramento home appears to be a murder-suicide, police investigators said.

The names of the deceased, who police said were recently in a relationship, have not yet been released.

A Sacramento Police spokeswoman said officers responded to the 100 block of Jade Tree Circle, just west of the Natomas Marketplace shopping complex at Interstate 80 and Truxel Road, shortly before 9 a.m. after receiving a call from inside the home of a person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon arrival, police discovered the two gunshot victims – a 35-year-old female and a 49-year-old male. The man appeared to have the self-inflicted wound.

Police said officials of the Sacramento Fire Department subsequently arrived and declared both gunshot victims dead at the scene.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that the deceased man and woman were in a long-term dating relationship that ended recently. They said the man went to the house that he and his former girlfriend had been living in, entered the home and ultimately fired multiple shots at her before turning the gun on himself.

Five family members, including two children, were in the house at the time of the shooting. None was injured.

Investigators and detectives were joined at the scene by law enforcement chaplains.

The Sacramento Police Department is asking that anyone with information about the incident to call the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357, or text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000, police said.
