Traffic is backing up on eastbound Highway 50 this evening as motorists return from the Bay Area and other weekend trips and run into Sacramento's major construction project dubbed Fix50.

Congestion is pretty much limited to the area under construction where lanes are closed between Interstate 5 and Highway 99, a section known as the W-X freeway.

Construction started Tuesday and will continue 24 hours a day until June 25, with work moving to the westbound lanes May 27.
