Potluck: Food and wine events around Sacramento

Open house

What: The California Food Literacy Center is celebrating its expansion into a new space on the second floor of the Medical Society building. The event will feature some of the nonprofit organization’s activities through which children are taught healthy food habits. Beverages and small bites will be served.

When: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday

Preserving strawberries

What: Janet McDonald of the Good Stuff, producer of handmade, small-batch preserves of local fruits and vegetables, will share recipes and tricks for making strawberry pinot noir jam; preserved strawberry pie filling, and strawberry syrup.

When: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday

Tea and tour

What: A program designed for people 55 and older features docent-led tours of part of the Sacramento Zoo. The group will enjoy a tea break of lemonade, tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, bread and cookies. All tours begin at the front gate.

When: 9:30 a.m.-noon Monday and May 12 and 19, Sept. 8 and 15 and Oct. 13
