A search has been conducted tonight in the Elk Grove area for a 55-year-old man, identified as a battalion chief with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in a south Sacramento County residence this morning.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies received information about 9 a.m. that a person was deceased at a home in the 9300 block of Fox River Way. Preliminary information indicated that the victim, a 26-year-old woman, was a resident of the home, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. She is believed to be the victim of a homicide.

Homicide detectives are seeking Orville Fleming, a resident of the home. He is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing about 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Sheriff’s officials said Fleming is believed to have left the Sacramento area and may have ties to the Fresno/Clovis area, as well as other parts of California.

Daniel Berlant, a CalFire spokesman, said Fleming is an instructor at the agency’s academy in Ione and has been with CalFire for 24 years.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said CalFire had confirmed that Fleming was in possession of a 2007 white Chevy pickup with a red stripe and “CAL FIRE” painted on the side. She said Elk Grove police found the vehicle unoccupied at Black Kite Drive and Apricot Woods Way in Elk Grove.

Bowman said an aerial and ground search of the area turned up no sign of Fleming. People in the neighborhood told investigators that the vehicle had been parked there since the early morning hours.

Bowman said Fleming has ties to this Elk Grove neighborhood, and anyone who may have seen him today, received a call from him or provided him a ride from the neighborhood is asked to call the sheriff’s dispatch center at (916) 874-5115.
