Auburn child severely burned after gasoline used to fuel fire

Auburn police are investigating a backyard fire in which a young child suffered severe burns.

About 9 p.m. Thursday, a family in the area of Summit Street and Chamberlain Avenue started a fire in their back yard and used gasoline as a fire boosting agent, according to a Police Department news release. The fire flared up and severely burned the child. The youngster was flown to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the incident is under investigation and will be reviewed by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.
