Turn off faucet while brushing teeth

Published: Saturday, May. 3, 2014 - 12:00 am

This is part of a weekly feature in Home & Garden, highlighting ways residents can save water.

•  When brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the faucet.

It may not seem like much to let the water run. But in the time it takes to brush your teeth, 2 gallons go down the drain – every minute. Multiply that by the number of times you brush or shave a day. Then, factor in all the members of your family. Experts estimate that a typical family can save at least 10 gallons a day just by remembering to turn the faucet off. That’s more than 3,650 gallons a year.
