Talk at hatchery

What: The public is invited to a presentation at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on how California’s drought is affecting salmon and steelhead populations in the American River. The event is offered by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which operates the hatchery. Rob Titus, a senior environmental scientist at the department, will discuss the state of salmon and steelhead runs and the challenges the drought poses to their survival. Forest Williams of the Sacramento County Water Agency will describe ways the public can reduce water use.

Force on the 4th

What: “Star Wars” enthusiasts are invited to “May The Fourth Be With You,” a fundraiser at the West Sacramento Community Center. Featured will be costumed characters, vendors, art, games, live shows, video presentations, contests, memorabilia, hands-on activities and more. Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the city of West Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation’s children’s programs and other local nonprofit community organizations.

Fiesta at park

What: Celebrating the area’s diverse culture, the Fiesta En La Calle Cinco De Mayo will bring music and traditional foods to Southside Park. Musical acts are scheduled to include Malo, Sacred Fire (a Santana Tribute Band), InnerSoul and Dinorah & Crosswinds, a salsa and cumbia band.

Fair in Oak Park

What: 35th Street and Fourth Avenue in Oak Park will be blocked off for a day of family fun at the 35th Street Fair. The festival, sponsored by the Oak Park Business Association, will showcase entertainment, food, art vendors, a classic car show and a kids’ zone. Scheduled performers will include the Yee Fow Lion Dancers, Sacramento Taiko Dan, Fenix Drum Group, Instituto Mazatlan Bellas Aristas, Cali Danza and Mercy Me.
