Re "A surplus, but no time for a spending spree" (Editorial, April 29): Thank you for reminding the voters of Sacramento to be wary of the over-spenders on their City Council, especially during an election year.
Even the City Manager, John Shirey, told his council members, "It is essential that we are realistic in consideration of the challenges ahead."
Those council members need to remember that the money they are working with belongs to the citizens of Sacramento. A small surplus from a year of budgetary restraint does not mean the purse strings should be cut and every penny should be used to fund any project they want. Instead, they should continue to focus on how to best serve the community without going into further debt.
Let's keep the council accountable for their decisions and how they spend our money.
