Hundreds of law enforcement officials from around the state gathered near the Capitol on Monday to honor eight officers killed while on duty in 2013 and recognize five others enrolled from previous years. The ceremonies included a rifle salute and the playing of taps. State Attorney General Kamala Harris told the audience the names of the dead are “an eternal reminder that safety comes at a price, and that price must always be remembered by a grateful state and her people.”
