Sacramento County Coroner’s deputies have released the name of the man who was struck and killed by a light rail train in Rancho Cordova Tuesday morning.

Benjamin Lee Smith, 42, of Sacramento was hit by the train at about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday as it approached the Zinfandel light rail station. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Regional Transit police said that before he walked in front of the train, he had earlier been seen with a bicycle at the station. However, he was on foot at the time of the accident.
