Free tax seminar set for May 15 in North Highlands

A group of California public officials is co-hosting a free tax seminar for nonprofits and exempt organizations on May 15 in North Highlands.

It’s geared to individuals and organizations that want to learn more about state laws affecting nonprofits and managers who want to help their nonprofit organizations become more successful. Attendees will receive information on how to comply with California’s tax laws.

The seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ark of Salvation Church at 6920 Larchmont Drive. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

Representatives from the state Board of Equalization, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, the Attorney General’s Office and the Nonprofit Resource Center will cover topics that include sales and use taxes, employment taxes, property tax exemptions, federal tax issues for exempt organizations and regulations for charities.

The seminar is being presented by BOE member George Runner; Assemblyman Roger Dickinson, D-Sacramento; Assemblyman Ken Cooley, D-Rancho Cordova; and the Slavic American Chamber of Commerce.
