Re "Report says climate change is here" (Page A1, May 7) In a front page story, Chris Adams wrote about the latest National Climate Assessment report, which found that we're already experiencing damaging impacts due to human-caused global warming. In California, warming and insect outbreaks due to climate change are causing worse wildfires, and the receding Sierra snowpack is causing big problems by making our water supply unreliable. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change also recently published its latest report, finding with 95 percent confidence that humans are the main cause of global warming, that we're headed for extremely dangerous climate change on our current path, but we can still prevent the most dangerous warming at a very low cost if we act now and put a price on carbon pollution.
A bipartisan compromise solution involves a small government, free market and revenue neutral carbon tax. However, we need to solve the problem before it becomes too expensive.
