Re "Another Shock in State Senate" (Page A1, May 7): Instead of forcing him to resign, maybe Sen. Steinberg could take a little pay from Sens. Wright, Calderon and Yee and give it to Tony Beard, Jr. as a parting bonus.
By The Bee's account, this loyal state employee did his job and did it well for 42 years. Perhaps he was incorrect in thinking the information he knew was confidential, but he did not attempt to cover anything up. Can't say the same for the senators in that chamber.
Anyone who has to put up with such self-important, petulant legislators deserves a bonus, in my opinion. I'm impressed he hung in there so long after being "cussed out pretty good" by Gov. Brown for doing his job. I'll keep all this in mind as I peruse the sample ballot that just arrived in my mailbox.
