Robert Weygandt

Endorsement: Weygandt deserves another term as Placer supervisor

Published: Thursday, May. 8, 2014 - 12:00 am

In the only contested local race in Placer County on the June 3 ballot, the choice is crystal clear for voters.

County Supervisor Robert Weygandt merits four more years, on top of the 19 he has already served.

He wants to use his experience, knowledge and relationships to guide the county – creating jobs and stabilizing the budget as Placer emerges from the recession; making the realignment of low-level inmates a success; and steering development in one of the state’s fastest-growing areas.

Weygandt helped lead the charge on the landmark 2011 Placer County Conservation Plan, bringing together environmentalists and builders behind a 50-year blueprint to protect precious habitat, including vernal pools.

Significantly, all four other supervisors are endorsing him, as are most elected officials in the 2nd district, which includes Lincoln and part of Rocklin.

While this is officially a nonpartisan office, Weygandt is a Republican. His opponent, Regy Bronner, who also ran for state Assembly in 2012, has the backing of Democratic groups. Bronner’s criticisms of the incumbent don’t hold much water, and his understanding of issues facing the county doesn’t measure up.

Weygandt would be the far stronger supervisor.
