The Sacramento Region Community Foundation placed second nationwide in funds donated through its Big Day of Giving campaign.

During the Tuesday event, $3,020,000 was given by 18,915 donors who went to the website www.givelocalnow.com. The money will go to 394 nonprofit groups in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties. The online giving event provided donors in the Sacramento region the opportunity to give money to participating organizations within a 24-hour-period. The total raised was triple the $1 million goal.

The local effort was part of the Give Local America campaign, in which 120 communities, hundreds of community and national sponsors, and thousands of nonprofit organizations activated more than 300,000 donors and raised more than $50 million for 7,000 nonprofit organizations.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation came in second to the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in Florida, which raised $3,127,801 from 18,799 donors.
