Sacramento men indicted for illegal possession of firearms

Federal indictments have been brought during the past week against three Sacramento men, charging each with illegal possession of firearms.

Jose Manuel Hernandez, 30, was charged with possessing a firearm after previously being convicted of a felony, as well as possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cultivating marijuana and possessing with intent to distribute marijuana, according to a federal Department of Justice news release. Michael Rojas Jr., 24, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The third man, Gabriel Reyes Hernandez, 27, was charged with being a felon in possession of a .40 caliber Glock 23 pistol with an obliterated serial number.

The indictments were brought as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which brings together federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to combat gun and gang crime.

The cases resulted from investigations by the Sacramento Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
