Hiring managers, get a grip

Re "Employers, applicants don't see eye to eye" (May 11): Today applicants submit nearly 100 applications without a single response. Hiring managers refuse to talk in person, insisting on online applications, which can take over an hour to complete, if essay-type questions are included.

In the rare case an interview is granted, applicants go back multiple times with no indication of when/if they are no longer in the running. Lazy is the last way to describe typical applicants.

The job market is getting more competitive. There are too many stories of arrogant, unprofessional, rude behaviors in hiring managers. In my experience, even in fiercely competitive job markets, if a hiring manager is professional and respectful, they will secure world class talent, where professional respect is expected by both manager and employee.

Buck up, hiring managers. Welcome to the real world wherein a healthy economy, you are one of many choices applicants have.
