Details: While driving to work, Alicia Ortiz suffered an allergic reaction to medication, sending her into anaphylactic shock. She was able to pull over and call 911 before her airway closed. The paramedics arrived and gave her medications to reverse the allergic reaction.
Kudos to: Aditya Mishra, spelling bee champ
Accomplishment: Won the state spelling bee championship for grades 7-9
Details: Aditya, a seventh-grader at Olympus Junior High in Roseville’s Eureka Union School District, is no stranger to spelling bees. He is also headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., this month.

Accomplishment: Received top award from the American Heart and American Stroke associations for stroke care
Details: The award is earned for care that includes aggressive use of medications and risk-reducing therapies aimed at reducing death and disability.
