Re "Public needs warning on soda's threat to health" (Editorials, May 11): I agree that the Legislature should impose warning labels on sugary soda to combat obesity, diabetes and other health issues.
Sugary sodas are one of the main causes of obesity. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain kinds of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.
A warning label would be a great start at bringing attention to this issue. Certainly there is a possibility that putting a label on soda will not be effective and people will not even pay attention to it, but what if that's exactly what was needed to educate people in the importance of taking care of their bodies? Before disregarding it, I believe it at least deserves a try.
