Sacramento State Director of Athletics Terry Wanless will retire on June 30, the school announced in a press release Thursday afternoon.

The news of Wanless' retirement comes three weeks after Marshall Sperbeck resigned as Sac State's football coach following an internal investigation of possible NCAA violations.

"I have truly enjoyed my time at Sacramento State and am proud at what we have accomplished," Wanless said in the release. "There are a lot of exciting parts about working in college athletics, but it is the relationships that my wife and I have been able to build with coaches, staff and student-athletes that are the most memorable."

Bill Macriss, this school's deputy athletics director, will serve as the interim director of athletics.
