Sacramentos Mira Loma High School and Winston Churchill Middle School in Carmichael placed among the top finishers in a national science tournament over the weekend in Florida.
The two schools, both part of the San Juan Unified School District, competed in the 30th annual Science Olympiad, held at the University of Central Florida.
Churchill finished second in the middle school division, and left the competition with a total of 10 medals.
Mira Loma placed fourth in the high school division, and won seven medals. Two students from Mira Loma, Claire Burch and Arvind Sundararajan, were awarded scholarships to the Florida university.
It was Churchills fourth straight trip to the nationals, and Mira Lomas ninth appearance in 10 years. This years results marked their best performance to date.
