River Cats glance: Carrithers delivers decisive hit for Cats

Published: Monday, May. 19, 2014 - 10:43 pm

•  Highlight: Alden Carrithers broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, run-scoring single in the seventh inning to lead the River Cats past the El Paso Chihuahuas 2-1 on Monday night at Raley Field. The River Cats are 8-1 on their homestand.

•  Streaks continue: Shane Peterson extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and Stephen Vogt had his fourth consecutive two-hit game.

•  Familiar face: That player in left field for the visitors was Jake Goebbert, who a week ago was playing for the River Cats. The A’s dealt the 26-year-old to the San Diego Padres for first baseman Kyle Blanks.

•  Home and away: The difference between the ERA of River Cats relievers at home vs. on the road is drastic. Entering Monday’s game, the bullpen’s home-away breakdown looked like this: Jose Flores (2.70-8.53), Deryk Hooker (2.53-8.10), Philip Humber (1.20-6.75), Jeremy McBryde (0.00-9.35), Fernando Nieve (5.06-10.00), Evan Scribner (3.00-13.50), Paul Smyth (3.48-5.87) and Jeff Urlaub (0.00-none.)

•  Headed back: After tossing four scoreless innings in garbage-time relief for the A’s, Joe Savery is being sent back to the River Cats in the wake of the Jeff Francis signing Sunday.

•  Today: River Cats RHP Matt Buschmann (1-0, 6.43 ERA) vs. El Paso Chihuahuas LHP Jason Lane (3-4, 4.47), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
