Ask Sacto 911 Crime Q&A: Was anyone arrested in 1990s death of teen found shot near Hood?

Was there ever an arrest in the case where a teenage boy was found shot to death in Hood-Franklin in the early- to mid-’90s? I believe his name was Ronald Cameron.

– Charles, Sacramento

Ronald Cameron Jr. was 14 years old in December 1991 when he was found dead off Highway 160 south of Hood with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

No arrests have been reported in the slaying.

According to stories in The Bee, the youth, who took independent study classes at Rutter Junior High School, was a chronic runaway. He spent the night of Dec. 15 as he often did, hanging around the Willowglen Apartments on La Mancha Way, a few blocks from his father’s south Sacramento home. A man and his girlfriend accused Cameron of stealing one or two of their cars, and around midnight the man shot at Cameron and pinned him down on the apartment stairs.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and took the boy home about 2 a.m. After his father went to bed about an hour and a half later, Cameron was seen leaving the house with an unidentified man. His body was found later that day.

Sheriff’s officials said they determined that Cameron did not steal the couple’s cars. Although the couple that accused Cameron of theft were considered suspects in his death, authorities said there was not enough evidence to link them to the crime.
