Re "Rancho Cordova's Mike Madden recorded recovery of ancient skeleton in the Yucatan Peninsula" (Our Region, May 20): The oldest known humans in America were fortunately found in a Mexican cave where the Mexican government allows the freedom of speech and inquiry necessary to analyze this person. Had the skeleton been found in the USA, the bones and DNA sequence would become, via our Antiquities act, the property of Amerindians, not the public.

What other subjects, especially those of a racial nature, are allowed freedom of inquiry in Mexico but not in the USA?
