Gloria Glyer: Fundraising events around the Sacramento region

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The Light of Hope will be held for the seventh year from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 29 at Beatnik Studios, 723 S St., Sacramento. Party plans include music, a silent auction, fine wine and hors d’oeuvres. The event is being held during National Foster Care Awareness Month, which honors foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policy makers, child welfare professionals and others who help children in foster care find permanent homes. Kiwanis Club. Seven Kiwanis Clubs in Division 7 will sponsor the Golf Ball Drop the afternoon of June 1 at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. Thousands of golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter above the course. All golf balls will be numbered and the owner of the golf ball that goes into the hole or lands closest to the hole wins $2,000. The golf balls are being sold at $5 each or five for $20. All proceeds will benefit the Eliminate Project, a global initiative of Kiwanis International and UNICEF to raise $110,000 by 2015 to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from more than 35 countries worldwide. In addition to the Drop, the event will include music, dinner, putting contest on the “curious course” putting green and more. Women’s Fund El Dorado. The annual Grants Gala will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 5 at Lakehills Covenant Church, 7000 Rossmore Drive, El Dorado Hills. A feature of the gala will be the awarding of $55,000 grant funds to local nonprofit community service organizations. In addition, impact grants of $5,000 each will be awarded in three member-selected areas of need.The Grants Gala is $20 and is open to the public. St. Anna’s Greek Orthodox Church. The 20th Greek Food Festival will be from noon to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1001 Stone Canyon Drive (off East Roseville Parkway), Roseville. Includes music and dancing in addition to traditional Greek food. Admission is $2. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Tony Apostolos Fund, Soldiers Project, Children’s Crisis Nursery and Kids First Now. Visit festival.santanna.org for details.

Kingsley Art Club. The merit award luncheon will be at 1 p.m. today at the Casa Garden Restaurant. The annual luncheon recognizes community college artists and their instructors. Honorees will be Daniel Meidinger, American River College; Tony Baker, Cosumnes River College; Madelyn Joan Templeton, Yuba College; Aida Uzalde, Sacramento City College; Kim Temme, Sierra College; and Julia Flippo, Folsom Lake College. Los Ninos Service League. A recruitment coffee for future volunteers will be at 9:30 a.m. May 28 at the Casa Garden Restaurant, 2760 Sutterville Road.
